The U.S. Engagement in Sudanese Peace Act - H.R.1939

Introduced in the House, this bill:

  • Requires new sanctions on perpetrators or enablers of genocide, war crimes, or crimes against humanity

  • Instructs the President to submit to Congress a strategy to protect civilians, deliver humanitarian assistance, and planned actions to make progress towards sustainable peace in Sudan

  • Strengthens the office of the Special Envoy for Sudan by appropriating funds and authorizes the President and Secretary of State to appoint a Special Envoy without the advice and consent of the Senate (for speedier appointment)

  • Authorizes US support of efforts by the UN, African Union, and other multilateral institutions to protect civilians in Sudan

  • Prohibits arms sales to countries that are helping fuel the conflict by providing support to the SAF or RSF

  • Encourages the involvement of women and youth in peace negotiations and humanitarian efforts

The Stand Up for Sudan Act

Bills introduced in the House (H. R. 2059) and Senate (S.935) would prohibit arms sales to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) until the President can confirm that the UAE is no longer providing support to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

A resolution calling on the United Nations Security Council to enforce the existing arms embargo on Darfur and extend it to cover all of Sudan

This bipartisan resolution was introduced in the Senate and:

  • Condemns the atrocities committed by all parties in Sudan

  • Calls on the UNSC to take action to enforce the current arms embargo on Darfur

  • Extend the arms embargo to all of Sudan

  • Calls on the Trump administration to:

    • Resume funding and implementation of United States foreign assistance to the famine-stricken and war-torn areas of Sudan

    • Increase support for civil society and local organizations that are monitoring and documenting atrocities and weapons deliveries into Sudan as well as delivering humanitarian resources to vulnerable communities

    • Increase and develop improved mechanisms for monitoring and documenting atrocities and weapons supply chains into and across Sudan

    • Develop mechanisms for psychosocial support for women, men, and children who are victims of conflict-related sexual violence
